I struggle to find the appropriate words to describe my experience. It was fine. The waitress was really nice and didn't hassle my out-of-town friend and I who just wanted some pasta. No desserts, no appetizers. There was bread and butter, breadsticks and some sort of bleu cheese dip. I had the spinach gnocchi, which was tasty, but not remarkable. No culinary fireworks, mind you, but I'd take this over Olive Garden any day. Wait. That sounded like a dis. Let clarify. I don't like the Olive Garden. If I was Italian, I think I would be abhorrently offended by their bastardized, overpriced, and oily food. This place has big portions and good service. The food was fresh-tasting and well-composed. It's not the best (Americanized) Italian I've had, but far, far from the worst. Next time someone recommends the Olive Garden (not many friends of mine do), I'll recommend Lorenzo's. The ambiance was okay, overall, aside from lecherous old men who walked by and stared at my chest. I liked that the place was well-lit enough for me to see my food.

I was in town on a business trip and heard about the Hill neighborhood (full of authentic Italian spots) and decided it was a must. We went to Lorenzo's on a recommendation. The atmosphere and neighborhood are very romantic and nostalgic. It seems as if time has stopped in this part of the world. We sat outside to really soak it up. The service was very warm and friendly. I felt like our server may have been a family member of the owners or had just worked there for the past 15 years. :) I had the penne with eggplant, capers, and olives in a tomato sauce - delicioso! Sorry, couldn't help it. :) The portions were huge and the price was reasonable. I'd definitely return on another trip.

My friend and I went based on a referral by a "real Itallian". We were not disappoionted. The ambiance was great. Our waiter Joe was extrodinary. He helped us with everything and what he did reccommend was delicious. I will take my boy friend back there. Word of warning the veal was so tender it defies expletives. They also have what looks like a table decor that are actually very long bread sticks that you dip into the Gorgonzola cheese dip. WOW!!!! I enjoyed everything I had there from the bottle iced tea to the dessert. Hey Joe, I will be back.

It had been about a year since I'd eaten at The Hill and I figured, twas about time I fixed that (can you believe it? a whole year!!). After finding out about Lorenzo's Trattoria on Yelp, I decided to check it out for lunch. I decided on the spaghetti with beef bolognese sauce while my mom got the traditional lasagna. When our entrees got there, we were surprised to find that both dishes were of ginormous proportions. Unfortunately, I was also surprised to find that the quality of the dishes left much to be desired. My spaghetti wasn't very flavorful and having so much of it only further solidified my belief that it was only "a-ok." My mom's lasagna was fine -- very cheesy and came on a huge bed of tomato sauce (that I really wasn't feeling). We decided to get dessert (in hopes of it lifting up an only allright meal) but the tiramisu? Meh. It would've been fine but it came slathered with two sauces. At the end of the meal, we left with over a $40 bill, two boxes worth of leftovers, and the desire to leave either a 2.5 or 3 star rating on Yelp. Suffice it to say, I don't think I'll be coming back here any time soon.

A very good "newer" Italian gem with a full menu of favorites and a solid wine list. Bar is lively and got larger a couple years back. Pastas and other entres are good, not too big and fairly priced. Service is attentive. parking can be tough, but it's a great location. The Hill has many great restaurants and this one is probably in my top 5 or 6. Impressive for a newer restaurant to do this well on the Historic Hill. Chicken and fish dishes are good, but we go for the pasta and wine.

You won't find toasted ravs on this menu! Lorenzo's on The Hill features seasonal contemporary Northern Italian cuisine with house-made pastas and risottos, braised ossobuco, goat cheese ravioli (yum), pizzas and a host of other delectable treats. Lorenzo's offers a lighter Italian menu than most of its counterparts on the Hill and some mighty fine wine! Give this one a try!!

I was surprised at how much I liked Lorenzo's! To be fair my expectations were quite low, with overly sauced, overly dressed, overly (fake) cheesed expeditions to Cunetto's or Favazza's being some of my last experiences on The Hill. Despite not expecting much, Lorenzo's showed me that St. Louis can do modern (or do I mean authentic?) Italian, for reals. The beef carpaccio appetizer, indulged with some truffle oil, was melt-in-your-mouth good. The house salad was also a winner with pistachios and crisped prosciutto on mixed greens and stood in contrast to The Hill salads of yore--those greasy iceberg messes. No saccharine dressing or Provel cheese here, boys! My veal piccata entree was perfect. The sun-dried tomatoes were some of the best I've had (in fact, I wanted to ask if they dried them in house), the spinach freshened it up, and the capers... oh, capers.... you little pastilles of umami goodness! What can't you top? And the best part! There's a prosecco on the menu for $6 a glass! Huzzah!

The service, the flavorful food, the nice atmosphere...this place is just GREAT. My coworkers and I recently visited St. Louis on business. We heard about the Hill neighborhood which is full of authentic Italian restaurants and markets and decided to head that way. We went to Lorenzo's just by chance and were very pleased. I had a house salad covered in grated parmesan, romano, and pistaschios, carpaccio, and gnocchi with spinach and sausage in a cream sauce made from gorgonzola and fontina. The sauce was just incredible, with a strong flavor. The ricotta based spread they serve with bread is delicious as well. I didn't order desert, but tasted my coworkers gelato which was also delicious. The staff is courteous, knowledgeable and attentive. It's a huge plus that smoking isn't permitted here as smoking in restaurants is still legal in Missouri. This place is just wonderful.

We celebrated a birthday dinner at Lorenzo's tonight; it was our first trip. We had the Italian Sausage pizza, the beef spedini, and the Fettuccine Alfredo. While all the food was very good, was really made the evening special was our server Joe. He took a good dinner and made it a very special dining experience. His wine reviews, the handling of the birthday, all down to how the leftover boxes were handled all combined to provide a dining experience that really focused on the details.

"Lorenzo's Trattoreeeeeeah" with a THICK Italian accent is how I always read it in my head... no I'm not racist, it's just more fun that way. I'd have to say that one thing I really enjoyed about this restaurant is the location and the atmosphere. Lorenzo's is found right in the middle of what seems like a very small-town residential area. It's a predominantly Italian area called The Hill. It was a beautiful day so we ate outside. It was so calm and peaceful, and my friends and I were able to talk without having to worry about any real distractions. On to the food! The atmosphere made everything pleasant and the food also was pleasant. Some friends ordered pasta dishes, while I opted for a sausage pizza. It tasted very good, definitely a good pizza. I would say though that it was a bit heavy; after a few slices, it was difficult to fully enjoy the rest. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant for those who want a peaceful night on The Hill with some good pizza. I'll have to update again if I ever go back to try their pasta dishes.

Order: Tomato soup w/ bread Smooth, rustic soup w/ chunks of tomato, thickened by bread. A nice, comforting surprise. Caesar salad Underwhelming. Fresh romaine, weak sauce. But then again, I like Caesar dressing stinking of anchovies. And this wasn't it. Not bad, but I was expecting a little more following the nice soup. Homemade croutons, I'll give 'em that. Shrimp pasta w/ mushrooms, cucumbers and whole wheat penne The cream sauce was very nice. Heavy, buttery. Kitchen did not skimp on the cream. Shrimp were plentiful in portion, but puny and uninteresting. But hey, it's St. Louis. Not exactly by the gulf. The oyster mushrooms added texture to the sauce. The cucumbers lacked crunch, but tasted good in the sauce. The wheat penne was perfectly cooked and was a nice starchy compliment to the heavy, savory cream sauce. Overall, it was a satisfying, but unremarkable dish. The soup and shrimp pasta were the day's specials. The menu included pizzas, your standard array of italian antipasto plates, and about 16 pasta and entree dishes. Pizzas were under $10. Pasta / Entrees ranged from $14-$35. Decor is old-fashioned and tasteful. White tablecloths and framed prints of oil paintings. Outdoor seating was available, but I sat inside. Lighting was comfortable. Dining room was maybe 1/4 full and not loud. Did not check the wine list. I'd bet it's decent. Service was commendable. Professional, not intrusive. Lorenzo's has top notch floor staff. Kitchen also on point. Everything came out on time, as ordered. At one point I was brought another knife; didn't even have to ask. My server noticed I needed another one and he just dropped it off without saying a word. If it weren't for the fantastic soup and great service, this would have been a slightly above average meal. But I get the feeling this is a well-run restaurant, and will likely return. Perhaps steak next time. -jc

I went to lorenzos while enjoying the gateway cup labor day weekend and the fettuccine with chicken (though outside my budget) was completely worth the two meals I got out of the dish! I thought the service was great, especially with a lot of race spectators like myself coming in and out getting food and leaving to watch the cyclists! The bartender was extremely nice even with having lots of patrons to deal with!

One of my favorite restaurants on the Hill! I ordered the Chicken Pesto Pizza...good, but I thought the chicken was a bit dry. I also sampled my friend's Italian Sausage pizza, which was REALLY good! Another friend ordered the Penne with Eggplant, which I also liked. Overall recommended restaurant...I personally think it's more reasonably priced than a lot of other restaurants on the Hill (and you get larger portions)! Definitely try it out if you haven't already.

Valentine's Day 2009 will forever be on the Worst Dinner Ever List, thanks to Lorenzo's. I booked a reservation for Saturday, Feb. 14 several weeks in advance. Having worked in the service industry, both my boyfriend and I knew that it was going to be a crazy night (Valentine's day AND a Saturday night on The Hill? Yowsers!) and were expecting to wait. No biggie. When we arrived at 7:15 for our 7:30 reservation, the lobby was a crowded mess! Turns out that they had double-booked all of their reservations and were running an hour behind. Waiting at the bar was even unpleasant because the one bartender was super stressed and couldn't handle the large amount of drink requests. Oh and he wasn't allowed to run tabs for people, so he was forced to run cards for every round of drinks. While waiting for our table, there was no manager present to help the overworked bartender or the poor young girls working the front desk, who had to face the wrath from a hungy customer every few mintues. No apologies, no free drinks, just a crazy mess. When we finally got to our table at around 8:45, we weren't even hungry! Just annoyed and a little tipsy from the 3 glasses of wine each we had while waiting at the bar. Our server was OK and the food was alright, but not worth the hour and a half wait. We want our $100+ night back! Next year, we'll call ahead and reserve a table at White Castle. At least we know the cheese fries are worth the wait :)

I had a date with an attracitve woman on NYE and decided to take her to a spot where I've grown to enjoy. Also, since she had never eaten on the Hill before I figured this would be a great way to introduce her to it. I made reservations via Open Table and I'm kind of glad I did a couple weeks ahead of time as it seemed to fill up with larger parties as the night went on. First thing is first, each table already comes pre-stocked with long, thin breadsticks and a very generous serving of Gorgonzola cheese dip. It is absolutely amazing! Our server came by and took our drink order which we ended up getting a bottle of the Frank Family Cabernet. They did have a special menu that night to go along with their regular menu but we didn't find any of the choices interesting. She decided on the Linguini with Shellfish while I went with the 8oz Filet. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium and I really enjoyed the side of breaded potato with wild mushrooms in the middle. It was a little too rich to finish with the breadsticks and Gorgonzola dip but very good none the less. My date enjoyed her seafood and linguini. I tried some and may have to come back to have it next time. Dinner service was excellent and our server was right there with water whenever we needed it. I'm not going to lie, dinner was expensive with the wine being the most expensive part of the meal. This is definitely a once in a long while, special occasion type place. I received an e-mail from the restaurant today that they were also going to stop lunch service in February but they will be open 7 nights a week instead for dinner. Overall she enjoyed her first dining experience on the Hill and I was glad I chose Lorenzo's for dinner that evening.

We stopped in last night for a late dinner. We were sat within a few minutes in a corner table in the main room. Our server was nice; genuine, attentive but not overbearing and well-versed with menu knowledge. I think her name was Elaine and I will definitely sit in her section again. We took her recommendation for a bottle of red. It was from the Frank Family Vineyard in Napa Valley. For the price, I found it to be a really nice, well balanced Pinot Noir. Everything on the menu sounded really good and we had a difficult time making a decision, it was easy to go with the special for an appetizer: Sambuca shrimp over toasted baguette with tomatoes. The appetizer was absolutely phenomenal. We were oh-ing and ah-ing like a bunch of porn stars. For a second course, we shared a tomato mozzarella salad. It came with capers, kalamata olives, fresh basil and red onion. Tomatoes are not in season right now, so they weren't exactly the ripest, but the salad overall was nice. The bf had chicken spiedini and I had the veal piccata. He ended up eating mine, which I found to be too salty. I ended up eating a few noodles and calling it a day. After all the delicious crackers and cheese that come to the table, plus wine and salad, I was stuffed. We finished our feast with a shot of espresso and a ricotta cheesecake. Both were excellent. I would say that overall it was a good experience. I was underwhelmed with my entrees or else I would give more stars. Great service though. Very attentive.\

On a hot humid St. Louis evening, the 94 plus degree weather suddenly cooled down and we decided to dine AL fresco at Lorenzo's. What a delightful evening. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable and our group of four all enjoyed our various fish entrees for dinner. We had salmon, red snapper and the house special of barramundi. All were cooked perfectly and included nice sized portions with wonderful complimentary sides. The bread was fresh and the bread sticks are fun. We split the mozzarella tomato salads and the half portions were more than enough. Thumbs up for a pleasant, reasonably priced evening at Lorenzo's...

Had a Saturday night reservation for 4 which went fine. Was seated quickly brought out some bread which was cold.No problem but they need some olive oil to dunk it in.Service was ok.Parking a nightmare had the seafood risotto.I really was not blown away by it. Wife had a chicken risotto and felt the same.It was just ok.The teenagers went with alfredo which is hard to screw up.Total bill for 4 with 4 alcoholic drinks and tip 114.00. Overall...just an ok experience.

Went to Lorenzo's with a large family group (16 of us) this past Saturday evening. Everyone enjoyed their meals and had a great time. House salad with pistachios got especially good reviews. The place was very busy but that didn't affect quality of service at all--excellent. Only shortcoming was that our waiter didn't know much about wine, though his recommendations turned out to be fine. I've been to Lorenzo's several times and have always enjoyed the experience

It's always a dilemna figuring out where to go when eating on The Hill so I try to go to a different place each time I eat there. Lorenzo's was a pretty good experience. The staff was attentive, the food was tasty and the atmosphere was generally pleasant. Little details, like the housemade breasticks, are things I look for. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer. It was good, but nothing outstanding. I had the Osso Bucco and was delighted to find a marrow fork among my utensils before it even got to the table. I have to say the dish itself was also good, but not extraordinary. The risotto was a little heavy. I was also a little disappointed to find that a lot of their desserts were ordered and not made in-house. When I asked about the Tiramisu, which they order from a vendor, the explanation I was given was "We've tried to make a better Tiramisu than the one we order, but we can't." and honestly that really didn't sit right with me. However, I know that not every restaurant can afford to have a pastry chef on staff so I guess it's not an unforgivable sin. Anyways, we opted for the ricotta cheesecake which was pretty good. I have a lot of criticisms about this place, but really I did enjoy myself. I guess when I get to this level of dining, there are certain things I expect and really it's born from the desire for the place to do just a little bit more. Also, I would definitely try this place again. Who knows, maybe if I tried some other things on the menu my overall opinion of this place would change.

My family dinner of seven was accommodated on pretty short notice. The lobby/bar area was packed when we walked in. I couldn't really find a spot that was out of the way. Hiccup occured when the hostess tried to drop us off at a table that already had two diners (she thought we were the same party--oops). But once we got settled, we enjoyed the gorgonzola-butter spread for the breadsticks. Wine was cheap. Portions were reasonable. The food was above average. I had the scampi appetizer and the vegetarian risotto. To note: they favor goat cheese (why?) and mushrooms. The decor is pretty blah, but if you bring your own lively family, you won't even notice.

Beats the pants off of generic chain Italian while leaving some money in your wallet. The menu makes an effort to emphasize seasonal ingredients (I appreciate that). The house salad was really good I had gnocchi and pork tenderloin that was pretty ballin'. The ravioli my husband had was also really yummy!

Any server that can handle my father's dry humor deserves at least a 20% tip, and the one at Lorenzo's was no exception. She was excellent, and even sported a chuckle when my father asked her for "water on the rocks." Well played, waitress, my family is now indebted to you. SERVICE: 4 stars The food, looked and tasted okay. My girlfriend's dinner (chicken saltimbocca) was bad, but the chicken liver entree that my brother got was pretty amazing. My ossobuco was really disappointing. Though the food didn't seem that bad, it made my entire family sick--a hard thing to do considering when it comes to milk, my brothers and I just smell and go. FOOD: 2 stars When my family came into town to visit, my mom told me one thing, "I want to eat some Italian." Lorenzo's was the only place that I could find that was open on a Sunday. The price was a little steep for what the place presented itself to be (about $45 a head, no drinks), but that's the price you pay for wanting Italian that will make you sick on a Sunday. I would give this place three stars, but considering that the food crippled my family and its iron constitution, I'm going to have to drop to a two. Maybe one day I'll forget I came here, come back, and have a lovely time.

Came back here one more time after an excellent meal at Giov's , for dessert, and a cappuccino. The dessert was awful, and the price for the coffee was six dollars and fifty cents. So in my opinion, having never been impressed with this place, the food is mediocre and the pricing is exorbitant.

LOVED my Valentine's date dinner with my husband at Lorenzo's! Our service was great- Toby gave us just the right amount of attention without stalking us, and was willing to give recommendations to help me narrow down my choices. I don't know if Toby & I happen to be soulmates (that would suck for my hubby), but everything he recommended I enjoyed perfectly. The handmade spinach gnocchi was phenomenal! So pillowy soft and in a savory tomato and portabello broth. I could eat that every day. The creme brulee was good, but not the best I've had (that would be at the Ritz-Carlton). They have a very extensive wine menu, including several Chianti's. Sadly we only tried one bottle, but it was fabulous. Too expensive to be a regular stop on my sad little social worker budget, but a wonderful place to impress a date or enjoy feeling fancy for one night.

I've been to Lorenzo's several times. Once or twice we had a short wait, nothing like the experience of the lady who booked for Valentine's Day, 2009. Ive had pasta entrees, lamb, beef and sea food and all are excellent. I've taken my mother there several times as they have her very favorite, calves liver (yuck, never could swallow that stuff). The wine selection is decent and the prices, more than fair. Service, good. I just took a friend from the east coast (they don't think a place like St. Louis could possibly have a good eatery) to Lorenzos and he had the seafood pasta, thought it was wonderful. That night I had the special which was a pasta with a light tomato based sauce and large lamb chunks. Great. I would go to Lorenzo's anytime.

We enjoyed our dinner @ Lorenzo's. It was a beautiful evening and we sat outside. The breadsticks and dip were very good and fun, as was the salad with pistachios. We both had pasta and enjoyed our entrees. Our server, Joe, was outstanding! We would definitely go back again.

I would recommend reservations, we went on a Wednesday and it was packed, we waited about 20 mins, and we were glad we did. The service was great we were with our 6 month old daughter, and they were really accommodating. The wine list was great, food was wonderful. We left with a wonderful experience of the hill.

I ordered the salmon entree and my boyfriend ordered the sea bass. We both shared one of the specials, an appetizer, which was the seafood ravioli with lobster, shrimp & scallops smothered in yummy cheesy herb sauce. All of our dishes tastped good but i liked what i would eat here again!

Good food, good service and huge portions. Cream/whipped cheese that comes already in your table is best when eaten with their garlic sticks. Calamari was well flavored and tasty. I ordered Veal Picatta that came with Spinach and Parpadelle. It was a huge serving for me which I felt bad not being able to take the left overs since I was traveling for business. Also tried the ravioli appetizer stuffed with cheese and they were tasty. Not much of wine selections to choose from. Will probably try other places when I am back in the area to find the best Italian on "THE HILL"

I really wish I could give Lorenzo's more than 3 stars but their lack in consistency and a particular server really brought this place down. My first 2 visits were great. We had decent service and really enjoyed our bruschetta and chicken spiedini. My next 2 visits were not as good. The same chicken spiedini dish was tasteless and service was not good and even awkward. My last visit the service really did it in for me, our same server as last visit was just as awkward he was even asking inappropriate questions. I don't think we'll be going back anytime soon.

Waited almost 2 hours for food. Our waiter didn't check on us for about an hour of that, let alone even look at us. The manager acted like it wasn't his problem and just simply offered to comp one bottle of wine instead of apologizing. It seemed like other tables were having the same issue as well. The only reason I'm not giving this place 1 star is because the food was terrific. Everything we ordered was great, albeit not worth a 2 and a half hour visit.

The decor makes this place look remarkably like a nursing home or the lobby of an undistinguished hotel, so I can't say that I was particularly optimistic about dinner here. But then at every step of the meal I was more and more impressed. That butter sitting on the table with the bread? It's actually gorgonzola butter, and it's delicious. The bruschetta, calamari, etc.? The bruschetta seemed to have made with good, local, heirloom tomatoes, and it was delicious too. My caesar salad? It had an overwhelming dose of umami, in the cheese, a parmesan crisp, and a heavy hand with the anchovies. All delicious. For an entree they have multiple kinds of homemade gnocchi, etc. These were probably the least impressive part of the meal, but they were still very good. And they also have a bottle of good Nebbiolo for only $40.

Very enjoyable. Started at the bar w cocktails around 1630 on sunday. I was a bit worried... we were the only customers. The restaurant started filling up after we sat down at a table. The calamari was very good but the cannelloni was even better... the sauce and the ricotta were delicious. The tuna was good but my wife's tutto mare was better. The cannoli we split at the end of the dinner was an excellent way to end it. We left pleased with the restaurant and the service. Mark M

A Hill favorite! Always great service, pleasant surroundings and excellent food. Swordfish special was outstanding and risotto was solid as usual. Local beer (Civil Life) and Peroni (I think it was Peroni -- maybe Moretti!) on tap... Reservations via that 'other' app -- always a plus.. Breadsticks at center of table are a Hill Classic... About a block from Berra Park. There was a beer-league game underway as we strolled before dinner -- a slice of Americana on a Summer evening...

Quite possibly the best business meal I've had thus far. I was entertaining a couple of out-of-town people and needed a spot where we could have a leisurely dinner and a conversation that was not meant for the general public. At the suggestion of a friend/co-worker, I reached out to Lorenzo's after spotting their Chef Room on their website. So glad I did... I was the first to arrive and was shown the room. You basically walk into the kitchen and find this small dining room on the right side between the double doors leading to the dining room and the line where the cooks are working their magic. From the single table in this room you can see into the kitchen through a large window and through the glass door. It is an absolutely private place for a meal for no more than 8 people. We were a party of four so we had plenty of room. First up was a bottle of wine. I can't remember the name, didn't pick it but did enjoy a couple of glasses. Expert wine service from our waitress, Melissa. Next up were the appetizers. The first one was a perfect bruschetta. Tomatoes were perfectly ripe, balsamic had a nice bite, bread was toasted but not emaciated and the basil was so flavorful. The second appetizer was a special of the day that included flash-fried scallops, shrimp, peppers, onions and mushrooms. For those of you following along at home...that's right, I ordered something with mushrooms and accidentally tried one of the things. Maybe it was the amazingly light batter or maybe it was the gorgeous lemon-garlic ailoi but I actually liked the thing. That said, I didn't deliberately eat another one. Salads followed and I opted for their caprese. Yes, it was basically the salad version of one of the appetizers but it seemed like the thing to do since garden fresh basil is very close to becoming extinct for the next 6 months. Great stuff! The others at the table ordered the osso bucco, a pasta dish and a fish dish - all reported enjoying them greatly. I went for the barramundi and enjoyed it thoroughly. It arrived with a lemon & white wine sauce with a couple of different types of capers and was draped over a bed of sauteed spinach and a polenta cake. Everything was fantastic! Perfectly seasoned and expertly prepared. If you couldn't tell from the preceding paragraphs, we ate a big dinner and skipped dessert. The service was impeccable and we were able to have a great meal and a great meeting all in the same place. I will certainly keep this place at the top of the list for business dinners in the future!

Wandered in because the wait at Zia's was 1.5 hours for a table for five at 6:30pm on a Saturday night. What a pleasant surprise. Ate at the bar because there were no tables until 8pm here either. Great antipasto appetizer. Delicious sweet corn soup. Very nice whitefish entree. Roasted veggies were a little salty. Friendly bartender/server. Nice ambiance all around. Would recommend!

The wife and I both had the Italian Sausage pizza, she with the garden salad, mine with the Bibb salad. Both the salads were fresh and tasty. The pizza was tasty but the sauce was a little too sweet for our tastebuds. I had a Margarita from the bar and the wife stuck with her usual iced tea. Service was excellent! Total for the meal was $62 with tip. In my estimation, a little steep for pizza and salad.

There's an eclectic feel as you walk in through the doors. The space is open and nice. The hostess and wait staff are pleasant. The menu is a 2 pager featuring a few apps, salads, pizzas, pasta and meat dishes. We were told to try their gnocchi. I ordered the house salad, spinach gnocchi, and braised osso bucco. The house salad was a pile of lightly dressed romaine lettuce, with toasted pistachios, and a good sprinkle of shredded Parmesan cheese. The dish didn't look elegant; looked like a salad you find at an Applebee's. There was so much greens that they were ready to slide off the plate. The spinach gnocchi had a nice sauce, but the gnocchi itself was very mushy and didn't have the right texture. Although the portion size for the osso bucco was large, the presentation could be better. This dish is served with a saffron risotto an orange gremulata. The osso bucco sits on top of the risotto with its sauce covering the risotto. What's the point of flavoring the risotto with an expensive ingredient like saffron if you're going to cover it up with a meaty sauce. You'll lose the delicate nuances of the saffron!! Overall, the food lacked flavor and salt.

I had dinner here on a Monday with some business associates. We had early reservations and were probably their second table of the evening. We started off in the bar c with a couple of Martinis and service there was perfect. Our table was set and we moved from the bar to the table and had some fantastic mussels as well as their bruschetta, which was really outstanding as well. For an entrée, I had a ribeye special that was absolutely amazing! Mt dinner companions also were raving about their food as well. Served with a nice Barolo, the main course was simply perfect! We also ordered desert, and I had to try the bacon ice cream. It was really amazing! I would highly recommend this establishment for any occasion!

Best italian food I have had in a long time. Every place in area had wait so we decided to call here was worried about being judged due to our bocce attire but no problem there. Food was great service was great love the way inside is set up think I have my new favorite place. Menu is a little small but stick to what you do well and it works.

Excellent food, prompt service and wide selection of vegetarian food. Prices very reasonable too. This was my first visit to a restaurant on the Hill. Pleased I fought the traffic to get into STL at rush hour.

Lorenzo's is a family favorite of ours. It is one of the few restaurants in the area open on Sundays when my grandparents come in from Chesterfield. The food is always delicious. I highly recommend their salads, the mushroom tortellini, and the seafood risotto. Prices are a bit on the high side, but it is well worth it. Service is generally excellent. There have been a few times where it was a little slow or we had to wait awhile for our food. However, with our last visit, they were very accommodating in getting us the chef's table in the back when the wait was long. I can't say enough good things about Lorenzo's.

  • Mer P.

I call this "the place for people who hate St Louis Italian." That phrase describes me and my distaste for the fact that in STL you can't get anything without a heaping spoonful of sugar added to it (pizza/pasta sauce, salad dressing). Lorenzo's certainly has the classic stuff that my husband misses from living near the Hill, but also a good selection of more nuanced "real" italian items. I could eat the beef carpaccio appetizer with truffle oil every day for the rest of my life and be happy. The service was pretty good after our seating mixup as well and we were happy to still be treated nicely, even while wearing post-card game clothes.

I tried Lorzeno's for the first time last week with Sean H. and a friend of mine from college. My friend has always really enjoyed Lorzeno's and he was excited to take me there. I liked the decor. Mostly just contemporary but it wasn't overly pretentious looking or too wacky or like it was trying too hard to be trendy. Just simple. It wasn't beat-up either, like some hole in the wall places I have been to. But I guess that's not really here nor there. Service was great too. I think our server's name was Jeremiah and he did a great job of taking care of us. Sean H. didn't get any food, but I ordered the veal risotto. It was really delicious, hearty, and filling. I could barely eat half and had to take the rest home. Unfortunately it did not reheat very well so I ended up throwing out my left overs. I wonder if they would be able to do half portions...that would be so nice. The bread was delicious too and I also enjoyed the complimentary cheese spread and crunchy homemade cracker rod things. Sean thought they were a decoration at first and wondered why we were eating them, hah. I also had a glass of house pinot noir and it was tasty and affordable. I think I would return here to try other menu items. The table next to us got a dessert and it looked fabulous. Mmm. Bonus points for being open on Sundays late ish!

Very, very nice place. Not only did they accommodate me and my date without a reservation on a busy Saturday night they even encouraged us to briefly wait for a better table than the one by the front door. Just enjoy a drink at the bar for a little while. That was much appreciated! Service flows as smoothly as a river on a calm day. From the moment we were greeted and seated till the moment when we left everybody involved made us feel at home. I think this is what happened to everyone. We were in a room full of happy people. The Lady ordered the veal and said it might be her new favorite thing. I tried it and it was fantastic. My beef dish was wonderful too. Cleaned plates all around. Don't skip dessert, either. We really like this place!

What a great experience at Lorenzo's! We had 9 people attend a birthday party on a Sunday night. Salmon over tortellini was fantastic. Their bread is served warm with this Gorgonzola "butter" which are both amazing and addictive. Jeremiah was our server and he was extremely attentive. All in, a great experience!

Descriptive word: meh-talian. Lorenzo's is on the Hill, so you expect Italian. It does it's best to live up to the heritage in the area, while still being more modern. When you walk in you can tell it's a family affair. There is a picture of (I assume) the owner and his family, and the receptionists were young girls. I wasn't really paying attention to the outside, but the inside is as if a suburban house was turned into a bar and restaurant. Very odd. Not at all the homey and old Italian setting you expect on the Hill. I think we had the same waiter that other reviewers had. He was an odd character; others have said hipster and I don't disagree with that. He was knowledgeable (almost to a fault) of the dishes and wines, but he seemed very condescending. He was never mean or sarcastic, but if we asked a question about something fancy that we didn't particularly know, he would pause with an odd look on his face of something like "Are you serious?" before giving the answer in a polite tone. Maybe I was just reading into it too much. Very attentive, though. My companions loved the skinny bread sticks and cheese that are on the table, but I wasn't a huge fan. I did, however, enjoy greatly the recommendation for wine from the waiter (~$5/glass). I started with the House Salad ($6). It was perfectly acceptable. I ordered the Linquine ($18) with another recommendation from the waiter and thought it was great. The mussels were perfect, though the sauce was a bit wanting. I also tried the House-made Potato Gnocchi ($17) which was very good. There wasn't anything bad about this place. The waiter was odd but helpful. The food was good and reasonably priced for the portions. But I simply have no burning desire to return, and wouldn't recommend this place over any other I've been to in the Hill.

A perfect celebration spot. The tangy cheese spread and breadsticks awaited us as we were guided to our table. I enjoyed the perfectly-grilled salmon with a light lemon sauce served over spinach tortellini with a generous addition of portabellas, and chopped tomatoes and just enough red onion. My companion was quite pleased with his chicken pesto pizza with its perfectly crunchy crust. For dessert, the espresso gelato provided a lovely, light not-too-sweet finish to a very enjoyable meal. Service was prompt yet unobtrusive, keeping our glasses filled and whisking away used items. All in all, my favorite special occasion place on The Hill.

This place is great. Authentic, homemade italian cuisine at its finest. We have been twice and never been disappointed. The truffle and parmesan butter on the table is out of this world and the gnocchi are amazing. Overall we really enjoy this place for its quality and selection. Word of advice, make a reservation if you are going between 6:30 and 8:30 and arrive early because it is off street parking because it is in a neighborhhod.

This place is solid, but not mind blowing. It was the little details that made me give them a 4 star and not a 3 star. First of all, the waiter we had was really good. She gave us time between our dishes so our food did not all come out at once. She was also very attentive to how much water we had and kept on refilling our glasses. Perfect since I was parched that day. On the table was a vase of bread sticks and a tub of cheesy butter stuff. DELICIOUS. I almost filled myself on these items. +1 point! We ordered a salad and soup. They were tasty. That's all I feel like I can say about it. We also ordered a seafood linguine and a mushroom and veal risotto. I just need to come to terms with the fact that pastas are not my favorite foods. The broth was great and the seafood were cooked well as well. However, the pasta just did not excite me all that much. I fully understand this is my bias, so I'm not knocking off stars here. As for the risotto, it was really good and even better the next day (this could be due to the fact that i'm no overwhelmed with tasty foods). The mushrooms and veal gave this dish a fairly earthy flavor. Yum but no for every day. All in all, I enjoyed me experience here. :)

So disappointed in one of my favorite restaurants. I sent my daughter and her boyfriend here for a special occasion, they are both 20. They had excellent food but horrible service. The waiter took their order and served their food but otherwise ignored them. Meanwhile he was lavishing attention on a nearby table with older patrons. Their water glasses were never even refilled. Just because customers are young does not mean they will tip badly. They deserve good service also, they are still paying the premium prices for food. Shame on you

Best spaghetti we've ever eaten. House salad, delicious. Clean restaurant, elegant, we had our children ages 11, 9, 4 and-10 months old with us, everyone agreed, delicious. We will definitely visit this restaurant when we come to visit St. Louis again.

Not sure how this place gets 4 stars. The owner is a really nice guy, and he seems to care, but it's just not that special. First of all, they serve Barilla pasta...come on, it's The Hill - how about homemade?! And it's lacking any real ambience or character. Nothing very interesting about it. On top of that, the food is just average. The waiter told me the chicken spiedini was the best I would ever have. Wow, was he ever wrong. A little overpriced, too. If you're looking for a classic Italian restaurant, that you would expect on The Hill, try some of the more tried and true classics.

We ended up at Lorenzo's because another restaurant on the Hill that we wanted to go to was too busy. Unfortionately, we were left disappointed. The house salad was good but not worth $8. The spaghetti with meat sauce was ok. The fettuccini with chicken was awful. Bland, absolutely zero taste. What kind of Italian restaurant messes up cream sauce? The service was also pretty slow. Our waiter didn't come to check on us and see how our food was until we were almost done with our meal. My husband was also left with no drink for a very long time during dinner. I would definitely suggest going somewhere else on the Hill. Lorenzo's is not worth the price of the food.

A couple of notable things about my review: 1. This was my birthday dinner. 2. My parents met my boyfriend's parents. I made reservations on Wednesday through OpenTable.com for my birthday night out. After posting on the Yelp board for suggestions, and doing some price checking, I decided on Lorenzo's coming from the suggestion from one of my friends. Lorenzo's is a very elegant place with dim lighting that sets the mood for your special occasion. The clientele was very mixed. There were some older couples, groups of 6 such as mine, and simple girls' night out. The menu had some nice options with different steaks to different pastas and risotto picks. Jason and I both opted for the same dish. We had the risotto with shrimp, scallops, calamari, and mushroom ragu for $14.95 a piece. Neither one of us liked it. It tasted like a Cajun dish at an Italian fine dining restaurant. I could have made it better myself at home by using a packet of Zataran's rice. The sauce completely masked the whole dish and defeated the point of the seafood. They might as well have saved my mother a few bucks by putting bologna or hot dogs in it..... Not what we expected at all. Our parents did enjoy what they ordered. I'm glad the whole night was not a ruined meal. My grandmother and Jason's father both got steaks and spoke highly of them. Our mothers both enjoyed their pastas. Considering we were mistaken for what we thought we were going to eat, I think it would be a safe bet to say we would have enjoyed it a lot more if we ordered different dishes than we did. Service was ok. Amanda, our server was nice, but I feel she seemed a bit out of it. 3 stars. Pros for the ambiance and our parents' meals. Cons, this birthday girl was not impressed with her restaurant choice. Especially when mom picked up the $200 tab for lackluster food.

I was lucky to get to share part of a longer table at the bar because it was very busy and we busted in here on a Saturday evening with no reservations. The staff was very accommodating and the other patrons were friendly and enjoying drinks and meeting new people. So I made new friends...The drinks were made to my liking and I had a hard time deciding over all the fantastic choices on the menu----I want it all!!! I ended up getting my beloved gnocchi with all the cheese sauces...I have many things I want to try so I would probably branch out and get a different option next time.- and I would happily dine at Lorenzo's anytime somebody wants to go there...

A friend and I met here for dinner on a Thursday night. We were seated outside on the small patio and immediately approached by a wonderful server who took such amazing care of us. The food was incredible. The house salad was inventive and fresh and the salmon was perfection. My friend ordered the fettuccine alfredo with chicken and had planned to take some home but there was none left! Dessert was the only food that was top notch, but it was still delicious. I can't believe it took me so long to give this place a try but I'm so glad I did. Can't wait to go back!

We visited Lorenzo's Trattoria to attend a wedding rehersal dinner. We were met at the door and led to one of many event rooms. The atmosphere is beautiful. This is not a jeans and t-shirt place but you can feel comfortable in pants and polo. We say with the groom's parents (the evening's hosts) and they raved about how friendly the staff had been when they set up the event. They were provided with menu suggestions but were given the option to make their own suggestions. The serving staff was extremely attentive, constantly filling water glasses and wine goblets. They took our dinner orders quickly and delivered the food without making a single mistake. One of our table mates spilled his wine. Before I could get my napkin on the mess, a server swooped in with a couple of towels to clean up. Another server offered a replacement glass. The food was good but not great. While the guests from out of town were thrilled, I'm a local and I've had many an Italian dish at many "on-the-Hill" and "off-the-Hill" family restaurants. I had the House-made Potato Gnocchi with luganiga (Italian sausage) in a three-cheese sauce. It was good (of course I cleaned my plate) the dish didnt excite me to need to return. My wife enjoyed the Angel Hair Pasta. She said she had better. Overall, a visit to Lorenzo's Trattoria will not disappoint. The atmosphere, exceptional service and varied menu will certainly please the majority of visitors. But it won't set the bar for great food.

Went for dinner during that bike race, so had to park a bit away. Sat at the bar for a pleasant glass of wine while waiting for table to open up. Sampled two nice whites before selecting. Bartendress was quite friendly and knew her wine. Dining partner got some special wine, too. The house salad of greens with pistachios, crispy prosciutto, asiago and balsamic vinaigrette is an amazing blend of flavors that dances in your mouth. Really, quite unexpected. Dining partner got the Caesar, which he enjoyed much. I got risotto with veal and chantrelle mushrooms. It was nice and creamy with a good flavor. Dining partner got risotto with shrimp, calamari, scallops in mushroom ragu. I think his was better than mine. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. The risotto was just fine. I think I don't like risotto that much. Whoops!

While the food was good, our experience was influenced greatly by poor, slow service. Even when I brought my concerns to the Manager, Eric, no one seemed to care. It took 90 minutes to receive our entrees. I have been here on numerous occasions and chose Lorenzo's for a birthday dinner for my wife with out of town guests. Not a good impression of dining on the Hill. Very disappointing.

Had dinner for six. Our first time at Lorenzo's. Nice atmosphere and the waiter staff was courteous and knowledgable with menu choices. All of us ordered salads. The house salads were good but the "fresh" mozzarella salad was fair. Not sure what fresh meant but it didn't taste fresh - something like I would get in supermarket. I ordered what we were told was their"signature" entree - the Ossobucco. Unfortunately it was dry, stringy and tough. Very disappointed when it should be moist and able to eat it with just a fork. The saffron rice with it was good. The others ordered pasta dishes. They all said that their meals were good but no better than say an Olive Garden. Our dessert ricotta cheese cake was dry and seemed to be over cooked. This is an Italian restaurant on The Hill and you would expect more from them in the quality of food. The high bill did not reflect the quality of the meal.

Really good food and excellent service. I had the portabella tortellini and Caesar salad. Both were excellent. My husband has chicken spedini and it was okay. Sauce was a little too much wine tasting. For dessert we had some kind of chocolate chip gelato. It was out of this world!!! If you go here definitely get the gelato.

We finally made it to Lorenzo's Trattoria after a couple of years of anticipation. We were very pleased. Reading through the reviews, there was almost nothing that people didn't like, which made it a tough choice - just about all of the pasta and entrée items sounded good. Sorry if this won't be very helpful, but we went with two specials: pan seared crab cakes and barramundi with risotto. For a salad, we got the tomato and new mozzarella dish. Since we're not big eaters, we split all three and it was the perfect amount of food. All three of these dishes were absolutely delicious. I was a little apprehensive about the barramundi after seeing it come out for some of our neighbors. From a distance it looked like a plank of fish on Spanish rice. When ours arrived, it wasn't all that visually impressive, but the taste was phenomenal. The risotto had some shrimp in it and there was a green sauce we figures included asparagus. Together it was all just perfect and not a typical Italian dish at all. The best seafood dish I've had in a couple of years. Our server was really good and from what we observed, our vantage point, the whole staff appeared professional and attentive. As for the ambience, I would describe it as "modern Hill." with several groups, locals of all ages, everyone having a great time. This made it kind of noisy to be a great date spot, but pretty much what we expected, so we weren't disappointed. It might knock them down a half a notch if I pull out my calculator.... Which reminds me of an old cartoon with the caption "why accountants get divorced." In the picture the accountant is telling his wife "I've determined how much I love you. Would you like to see the figures?" End of hilarious comedy section. Bottom line: Based on all I've read here and our experience: Go to Lorenzo's for a nice dinner. Is it perfect? No. But definitely a solid 4 stars - five because I'm in a good mood.

Yay review time! My girlfriend and I had dinner @ LT's last night and this was only my second time there. Last night my gf & I both started w/a glass of wine. For dinner she ordered the Risotto w/shrimp, calamari, scallops in a mushroom ragu. I got the Fettuccine Alfredo w/Grilled Chix & Truffle oil ( I was still thinking about the Chix Alfredo from Jimmy's the night before that my gf had gotten). It was nothing like Jimmy's on the Park Chicken Alfredo but it wasn't bad either. For desert we shared a Nocello Creme Brulee that it was just to die for and the Spumoni Ice cream, very good! The two I've been I've enjoyed the place, the food, and the service. Nothing bad about this place and since I live in the area I love coming and supporting my local restaurants.

Lorenzo's was recommended to us by the owner of the bed and breakfast that my girlfriend and I were staying in for a night this past weekend. Neither of us had ever been to St. Louis and we were completely unaware of its Italian scene, but we knew we were at home when we stepped out of the car and smelled olive oil. It was a slow Sunday night, and we were seated and served promptly. We purposely overdressed a bit but didn't feel uncomfortable - I would have felt just as comfortable here in jeans as I did in a suit and tie. We split an order of the goat cheese ravioli, which was delicious and surprisingly light, but a single order would have been too small for one of us, let alone both. For almost nine dollars, more than four or five raviolis would have been appropriate... ...especially considering the massive entrees. I had the angel hair pasta with sausage and she had the gnocchi. We were both thrilled. My pasta had just the right amount of spice and wasn't drenched in sauce, which I appreciated. She loved her gnocchi (the gorgonzola was a little strong for me, but I'm not much of a fan of gorgonzola to begin with), but she barely finished half of it. We love huge portions as much as the next people, but we would have preferred that a bit of that size had been transferred to our appetizer. Service was great, as was the variety of bread and the general environment. The next time, we'll be trying some of the other options in the neighborhood (there's so many!), but we'll definitely be visiting Lorenzo's again, too.

Lorenzo's is the perfect spot for a date night or special occasion. It's pretty fancy - white tablecloths, classical music, candles lit, etc. but the prices are really reasonable and the food is excellent. This has been the nicest place I've been to on The Hill and it definitely improved my outlook on this area. I'll definitely return to Lorenzo's for some fine Italian dining!

About 12 years ago, we went as a family to Cunetto's on The Hill and were really disappointed in the quality of the food. The next day I asked a guy I worked with, who I knew had grown up in The Hill neighborhood, where he would recommend. He commented that Cunetto's was a "food factory" and I never forgot that. One of the places that he recommended was Lorenzo's. Somehow we had not made it there in all these years, so a Groupon triggered a visit. Let me just say that it will not be another 12 years before we return. It was a beautiful early summer evening. There is something so nice about going to a great place to eat in a neighborhood like this, rather than a strip mall. At times like this suburbanite me, envies just a little, the people who can stroll to such local places whenever they choose. We had reservations for Saturday evening and the seating went smoothly. Our waiter Joe was excellent and provided just the right amount of attentive service throughout. Bread is served with a butter that has bleu cheese blended in. I really liked this with both the bread and the thin and light bread sticks. We started with calamari (of course). It was lightly coated and perfectly fried with some zucchini spears mixed in on a bed of spinach. It had a light bodied tomato vinaigrette dressing. This was great. I sort of wanted a little bit more of the sauce. Even the spinach was excellent. It was a large portion and about half went home with us. I could not resist another appetizer in the form of a special-of-the-evening; lobster ravioli which was garnished with mushrooms and scallions and topped with a rich brandy cream sauce. This was also excellent with full rich flavors. Joe offered to split one special-of the evening salad for the two of us. It had spinach with fresh buffalo mozzarella, sliced apples, strawberries and sliced almonds, topped with a pistachio vinaigrette. Again Lorenzo's hit the bull's eye. Ms T selected risotto with seafood in mushroom ragu. This was first rate. The risotto was properly cooked, not pasty. It had rich seafood and mushroom flavors and a nice portion of shrimp, scallops and calamari. The sauce was well flavored with good depth and balance. Great choice. The huge serving made three good leftover meals. I had narrowed it down to roasted portabella tortellini or penne with eggplant and kalamata olives, but Joe announced another special-of-the-evening; walleyed pike fillet with horseradish mashed potatoes. I selected the walleye and really happy with it. The walleye fillet appeared baked with a light coating of seasonings that did not overpower the mild fish. The horseradish mashed potatoes (real homemade style) and accompanying steamed green beans and baby carrots were a nice combination even if a little ordinary. There was richly flavored tomato sauce under the walleye that was infused with rosemary and worked will with both the fish and the potatoes. All in all it was excellent. I know that when you go here and when we return, the specials will be different. I described them here to illustrate the balance and depth of flavors that were in each one and by extension I expect that most items on the menu are well conceived and well executed. As a bonus I did not wish for a salt shaker once during the meal. My only minor comment is that they are very quick to remove plates, perhaps to get another seating. I would not call it leisurely. There appear to be at least two tiers to the quality of Italian restaurants in St Louis and even on The Hill. Lorenzo's is clearly in the top tier. This is a strong four stars, close to five.

Last week when my mom and dad were in St. Louis , we decided that we wanted some garlic buttery goodness. After consulting my friends on which Hill restaurant was best, we decided to hit up Lorenzo's Trattoria. An establishment that boasts "authentic Italian food with a touch of contemporary flavor." I haven't had many great experiences on the Hill, so I was a little nervous finding yet another crappy Italian restaurant. Luckily for me, I can finally say that I have broken my Italian food losing streak! Lorenzo's did not disappoint. Here's the grade. I'll explain more below: Food: A- Decor: B+ Service: A- Cost: $$ Portion Size: Large Let's start with the least exciting part of this post-the decor. I gave Lorenzo's a B+ because the restaurant was clean and welcoming, well put together; but it was just... a little bland. I guess that part of me wants the restaurants on the Hill to have some kind of historic feeling to them. Or at least an Italian flare. Is that too nit-picky? Probably. Deal with it. Now, where were we? Ah yes, the service. Our service was fine. Our waiter brought us everything we asked for in a timely fashion. Sounds perfectly satisfactory, right? Well, it was. But, I don't give A's for satisfactory. I give A's for above and beyond behavior (aren't you all glad I didn't become a teacher?). SO, I gave Lorenzo's an A- because our waiter was so tremendously dry and unenthusiastic that I am pretty sure that he was a hipster (he did have on thick rimmed glasses...). Whatever... I'm over it. Alright already, let's get on to the good part. The food! Like most good Italian restaurants, the meal started with a basket of bread and butter being delivered to the table. The bread was pretty standard-semi warm, yummy, and homemade. My mom commented that it had a "nutty" undertone in its flavor. All in all, it was good. For our first course, my dad and I ordered salads (mine the house and dad's the caesar) and mom ordered the split pea soup. Mom's split pea was surprisingly good (I always think that split pea soup sounds terrible, but usually tastes good). Very rich and hearty. Reminded me of comfort food, for sure. The salads were also good. Mine had pistachios on it, which I loved (it gave it crunch, an extra intensity, and a unique flavor). Dad raved about the Caesar, although I don't remember anything about it--so what does that tell you? As for the entrees, I ordered the risotto with shrimp, calamari, and scallops in a mushroom ragu; mom had the linguine with fish and fresh seafood in a white-wine-basil-mushroom sauce; dad, got the spaghetti bolognese and added an Italian sausage to the spaghetti. In a few words, all of our meals were extraordinarily good. We all sat around the table moaning and gobbling down fork-fuls of rich, buttery, creamy goodness. Dad twisted fat, squiggly noodles around his fork and commented on the thick and savory marinara that coated his spaghetti. It was, indeed, very good. He bragged that with the Italian sausage it tasted even better, but then slapped our hands away when we tried to retrieve a bite of one. (I would have done the same thing.) Mom delicately handled her tiny seafood fork and enjoyed cracking open the black pods that held her favorite treasure-mussels. The creamy wine sauce that coated her entree was also delicious, and had a lighter feel to it which complimented the seafood well. Now, as for my risotto ... it was creamy and textural, the rice perfectly al dente. And the sauce, oh the sauce... it was rich, thick, buttery, cheesy goodness-with a hint of that mushroomy nuttiness. Plus, the seafood was fresh and firm, which I appreciated. High five, Lorenzo's. High five. The only reason that I am giving Lorenzo's an A- is because the food was so rich that I had a little bit of a stomach ache after the fact. So, be warned. If you aren't used to rich, buttery food... take it easy here. They love their butter and cream. Paula Dean would be proud. As far as price goes, the meals were between $15 and $25 a pop, so they weren't "cheap," but in my opinion the portion size (for pastas at least) was big enough for two meals-so it was worth it. All in all, I would definitely recommend Lorenzo's over most of the Italian that I've had on the Hill so far. So, give it a try! Let me know what you think. Happy eating!

Date night: Theme? Comfort food. We started off with "Creamy herbed polenta with mushrooms, Italian sausage, and truffled oil ($8.50.) This could be a meal within itself. Very good! We knew if we ate it all we would not be able to eat our meals. Very filling!! Absolutely worth ordering. I had the Linguine with shellfish (mussels, shrimp, scallops)in a white wine basil sauce ($14.95.) What I liked most about this is that the white wine basil sauce was that. It was not a pool of butter or oil. I appreciated that quite a bit. My husband had a Tortellini that I can not find on their online menu right now (maybe it was a special) but it was very good. Such a very very very clean restaurant. I can't believe I noticed that. I also noticed just looking down at the tables and the chairs and not at the decorations stuck to the walls and the chandelier.. it looked like Denny's tables and chairs! So weird! I wasn't sure if I was just out of hand here but I mentioned it to my husband and he said he noticed the same thing. Naturally this doesn't effect the quality of the food but it is an odd assortment of decoration. The service was sufficient. The waiter was a bit over the top at times, as what a stiff butler might act like with that slight hint of disdain on one of those TV sitcoms. We tipped the 20% but not because Cheeves thought he was waiting tables at the Ritz, hardly that. TLDR: The food is good. The interior is very very clean but strangely put together. Causal place. Worth trying. Not a place for real "fine dining" as in a first date or anyone you want to make a first impression on.

If you have not been to Lorenzo's Trattoria on The Hill . . . you need to go this week! Be sure to call ahead for reservations - weekends are BEYOND busy and every entree I have ever had is outstanding! My favorites are the chicken spedini and you wouldn't think of getting an 8 oz. filet mignon at an Italian restaurant . . . it is beyond delicious and only $23.95. The chicken spedini comes on a bed or linguini noodles with asparagus, capers, and diced tomatoes . . . only $17.95. Be sure to ask for Raetta for your server . . . she is SUPERB! If you have a Passport card, then one of your dinner entrees will be free. Have fun and ask for Raetta . . . you will not be disappointed!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
